The Project

In Rwanda, agriculture is the cornerstone of the economy, contributing significantly to the national GDP. However, the country faces challenges such as inflation, leading to a concerning 45% of children under five suffering from chronic malnutrition. Extensive farming on hillsides has triggered soil erosion and vital topsoil loss, while a lack of trees has resulted in landslides. To combat these issues, we’ve joined forces with One Acre Fund, the Rwandan Government, and local farmers. Together, we aim to champion sustainable agroforestry, providing smallholder farmers with the resources and knowledge needed to enhance crop productivity, soil health, and climate resilience. Your support empowers us to make farming in Rwanda more profitable, sustainable, and resilient against the impacts of climate change.

The agroforestry species list planted are:
Grevillea, Avocado(Hass and Fuerte), Calliandra calothyrsus, Jacaranda mimosifolia, Senna Spectabilis, Leucaena Diversifolia, Maesopsis eminii, Cedrella Serrata, Alnus Acuminata, Croton megalocarpus, Newtonia buchananii, Carapa Grandiflora, Polyscias fulva, Markhamia Lutea, Prunus Salsa (Umwumba).

Please note that average lifetime and KG of CO2 offset are conservative estimations made by Evertreen based on external consultants, papers, articles and comparable platforms.
