Description

The Create Better group Forest in Madagascar of 3.700 trees a year. Yearly offsetting power of CO2 925.000 KG

This reforestation package is intended to be an exclusive offer for the company Create Better Group LTD (www.createbettergroup.co.uk)

The project entails the planting of 3.700 trees a year in Madagascar. The estimated CO2 offsetting power of the trees during their lifetime is CO2 925.000 KG.
This reforestation action aims at protecting and restoring forests on a massive scale by involving local farmers and creating livelihoods for people living in extreme poverty by offering them the dignity of employment and the possibility to become transformational agents of global forest restoration.

The Project
Deforestation has long been an issue for Madagascar. It is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its high concentration of endemic species and severe habitat loss rates. In the coastal zone, mangrove deforestation destabilizes the coastline, which increases the vulnerability of coastal communities to storms and other weather events that are becoming more frequent and intense due to human-induced climate change. In upland dry deciduous forests, deforestation threatens one of the world’s rarest and most diverse forest systems. In response to the large-scale loss of mangroves and upland forests in Madagascar, the Madagascar Reforestation Project was initiated in 2007 and has now successfully restored part of the lost vegetation. Working collaboratively with different communities and having full support from national, local, and tribal governments to reforest large areas of mangrove and dry deciduous forests along the coast and inland areas, the project provides training and financial support to the local community to collect mangrove propagules and strategically plant millions of trees in coastal mangrove systems and upland dry deciduous forests that have been heavily degraded or deforested.

Average lifetime and CO2 offset are conservative estimations made by Evertreen based on external consultants, papers, articles and comparable platforms. The management of the work, the procurement of resources and materials as well as the survival of the trees over time will be carried out by Evertreen’s planting partner Eden Projects.
