The Project

In the 1960s, the Philippines experienced the onset of deforestation, resulting in the destruction of approximately 90% of its forests and the displacement of rural community members. By engaging the local community, we aim to reforest an area of over 3,000 hectares (equivalent to nearly 7,500 acres), providing employment opportunities for local residents. The significant factors contributing to the alarming deforestation rate in the Philippines include logging, slash-and-burn agriculture, land development, and forest fires. During this period, Philippine mahogany was extensively logged, leading to its near-extinction. The disappearance of these trees caused adverse effects such as soil erosion and the pollution of waterways, as well as the displacement of indigenous communities from their ancestral lands. As deforestation continues, biodiversity declines, plant and animal species become extinct, and indigenous communities lose the productivity of their land.
