How this is calculated. This is a preliminary estimate based on recognised industry and regional averages (per-employee sector benchmarks for businesses and per-capita national figures for individuals), not an audited carbon assessment. Figures are shown in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) per year and are rounded. Your detailed report refines these numbers using your own activity data. The car and flight equivalents use widely cited averages (an average car emits about 4.6 tonnes of CO2 a year; a long-haul return flight about 1.1 tonnes).
