What Kenya Biogas is
The Kenya Biogas Programme, run by SNV with HomeBiogas as commercial scaling partner, installs household anaerobic digesters fed by livestock manure in small dairy-farming regions. Over 2,500 units are already installed, with HomeBiogas targeting 50,000 across Kenya. The digesters replace wood and charcoal cooking — improving family health, especially for women and children exposed to indoor smoke — produce bioslurry used as bio-fertiliser for regenerative agriculture, and actively capture methane from animal waste that would otherwise vent to the atmosphere.

One credit = one tonne of CO₂e. A verified carbon credit represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent removed or avoided, independently verified under the Gold Standard. CO₂ figures are estimates based on the project’s methodology, not exact measurements.

How double counting is prevented
Each credit has a unique serial number and is retired only once in the Gold Standard Impact Registry when it is claimed, so the same tonne of CO₂e cannot be sold or counted twice.
