Subtropical rainforest restoration in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, planted by our partner Reforest Now.

Introduction

Evertreen funds subtropical rainforest restoration in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, delivered by our partner Reforest Now.

Where the planting happens

Planting takes place across roughly twenty-three localities in the Byron Bay hinterland, among them Doon Doon, Main Arm, Newrybar, Mullumbimby, Rosebank, Teven, Clunes, Coorabell, Crabbes Creek, Myocum, Bangalow, Brooklet, Binna Burra, Wilsons Creek, Eden Creek and Tyagarah. Sites are typically former grazing land and degraded rainforest margins.

What is planted

The work is rainforest regeneration rather than plantation forestry: mixed native species are planted to rebuild the structure of lowland subtropical rainforest, a vegetation type that has been heavily cleared across this region. Reforest Now propagates the stock and carries out the planting and maintenance.

Our role

Evertreen funds the planting and reports it to the client who paid for it. We do not own or operate the sites. This is tree planting, not a certified carbon credit: no carbon credit is issued or retired against it, and there is no registry entry or third-party verifier attached to this project.

Monitoring

Reforest Now monitors the sites it plants. Monitoring methods vary by site and by partner; drone mapping is not available in every country we operate in.

Our sites in Australia

Our gallery for Australia includes photographs from both of our Australian sites: the current planting with Reforest Now in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, described above, and our earlier site at Monash Street, El Arish, in Northern Queensland. The two are different parts of the country, and each photograph is captioned with the site it shows.
