Both platforms take traceability seriously. The decisive difference is carbon: EcoMatcher's verification is NGO/foundation-based, while Evertreen can pair geolocated planting with Verra- and Gold Standard-certified offsets — the standards auditors and regulators recognise. Add the lower per-tree price, no minimum, branded videos and PR support, and Evertreen is the stronger fit for most business programs.

EcoMatcher remains a good choice if a blockchain ledger is specifically required by your stakeholders.

This is the comparison where the word “verified” does the most damage, because both platforms use it to mean something different and both are entitled to.

A blockchain ledger proves the record has not been altered. It gives you an immutable entry showing a tree, its coordinates, its photograph and the farmer who planted it. That is real and useful, and it addresses tampering.

A carbon registry proves an independent auditor checked the tonnes. Verra and Gold Standard certification means a methodology was applied, a third party verified the outcome, and credits were issued and can be retired in your name.

The distinction matters because they answer different objections. A ledger answers “has this record been edited?” It does not answer “did an accredited auditor agree this represents a tonne of CO₂?” If your requirement is an auditable carbon claim, immutability alone will not satisfy it — and if your requirement is transparent provenance for each tree, a registry credit does not provide that either. Entry cost and minimums. EcoMatcher prices at $3.49 per tree with a minimum of ten; Evertreen starts at £1.5 with no equivalent minimum, which matters for testing a programme before committing to one.

Communication assets. Evertreen produces branded field videos filmed with your brand and PR visibility across 300+ outlets; EcoMatcher's strength is the per-tree record rather than campaign material.

Both offer company forests, B2B gifting and API access, so integration is unlikely to be the deciding factor.

These six questions apply to every platform on this page, this one included. A supplier who answers all six without hesitating is doing the work; one who deflects is selling a number.

Can you locate an individual tree? A country is not traceability; a coordinate is.
Who maintains the site, and are they paid for it? The first three years decide survival, and maintenance is where cheap programmes quietly economise.
What is the measured survival rate, and how was it sampled? Planting counts are easy to publish; survival is the number that reflects whether a forest resulted.
Are the species native and suited to the site? The wrong tree in the wrong place can damage the ecosystem it was sold as helping.
Is the carbon methodology published? A single flattering per-tree figure with no method behind it is the clearest warning sign in this sector.
What exactly may you claim in public? Particularly relevant now that EU rules restrict offset-based carbon-neutral product claims to consumers from 27 September 2026.
